Michael Smith

Chief Executive Officer, AmeriCorps

To create a world where every child can reach their full potential, I believe we must forge unlikely alliances, leverage data and technology and apply relentless pressure to obliterate structural racism from the inside out.

Michael Smith leads AmeriCorps, the U.S. federal agency that deploys more than $1 billion and 250,000 AmeriCorps members annually to address the nation’s most pressing challenges, improve lives and communities, and strengthen civic engagement.

Previously, he led the Obama Foundation’s efforts to scale the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative and aligned efforts focused on boys and men of color. Michael was part of the team that launched MBK and was then appointed Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of Cabinet Affairs for MBK. Prior to the White House, Michael served as Director of the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), SVP of Social Innovation at the Case Foundation and helped build national initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide.
