Professor of Law, University of California, Los Angeles

I believe we cannot meaningfully address racism without recognizing how the phenomenon shifts and is embedded in and reproduced by institutional structures.

Devon Carabado is the Honorable Harry Pregerson Professor of Law at the Law School of University of California. A board member for the African American Policy Forum, Brown has worked to push forward an intersectional approach to racial justice. He has worked with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the ACLU on education projects and litigation. Devon also regularly mentors junior scholars to provide them with a transformative vision of law that motivates them to consider law school. He received the Clyde Ferguson Award from the Minority Group Section of the Association of American Law Schools for his leadership role in mentoring. Carbado has edited several books covering race, gender, sexual orientation, immigration, and the co-author of Acting White: Rethinking Race in Post Racial America.
