Dany Sigwalt
Dany Sigwalt is executive director of Power Shift Network where she works to bring together the climate justice and racial justice movements to build power, reimagine our relationship to the Earth and its resource, and build prosperous communities for all. Her activism has always been rooted in racial justice and Black liberation, starting with work in educational access and youth leadership development and moving into anti-war activism and local electoral work. Extensive engagement at the Occupy DC encampment punctuated that work.
The common thread throughout Dany’s work is a deep focus on cultivating leaderful movements, anti-oppressive organizational structures, and shared values in ways that allow people to come together in coalitions to work more effectively, and with more power.
At Power Shift Network, she has honed her abilities as a popular educator and movement leader who builds movement infrastructure, mentors youth leaders, and supports young people fighting for a liveable future and a fair shot at a fulfilled life.
Dany is passionate about building organizing models that reflect that the world that we are trying to build, centring Black feminist theory, and working to build cross-issue solidarity. She holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Macalester College and a Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Georgetown University.
