Senior Lecturer, University of the Witwatersrand

I am feminist teacher, researcher and recently published poet. I work at Wits University as a senior lecturer in African Literature, having completed my Ph.D. there with a fellowship from the History Workshop.

Over the last few years, my work has involved interrogating questions of justice and pedagogy. I am reflecting on what and how I teach, how people learn, and how justice is tuned into every aspect of those relations. Teaching for me means producing the conditions through which those participating in them can learn to feel a concrete sense of authority about what they feel and know, even while grasping an excitement about what they are learning. I want to participate in classrooms where love and freedom and justice are densely articulated as objectives, as much as the syllabus.

I am a mum, to the most incredible 11-year-old going on 30.
