A Global Call for Our 2024 Cohort

We’re thrilled to announce that today, AFRE begins a global search for our 2024 Fellows.

For the first time since our founding, we’re inviting applications from racial justice leaders across the globe–in addition to those working in our home bases of South Africa and the United States–to join our community of changemakers who are building a world beyond anti-Black racism.

A GLOBAL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

This shift to global recruitment comes after a pause period where we have taken time to reflect on the first five years of AFRE’s work, and to envision what its future could be.

We’re emerging from this period with a palpable sense of the global scale and borderlessness of anti-Black racism. With us too, is a renewed appreciation for the complex challenges facing the leaders on the frontlines of the struggle for justice, among them, the realities of isolation that attend the call of leadership, the risk of burn out, and the rarity of space and time to learn alongside other leaders and to nurture ideas.

Our Fellowship Experience disrupts these difficult leadership conditions by cultivating transformative, multidisciplinary community among those on the leading edge of racial justice work. We’re inviting these leaders into an experience that fosters personal and collective longevity for the work of justice, shared learning, and experimentation with liberatory ideas. In particular, we seek a cohort of changemakers bound by a commitment to making sense of, uprooting, and dreaming and building beyond the global structures that sustain anti-Black racism.

In addition to going global this year, we're inviting our community to help us find prospective Fellows via a brief nomination process. Many of you know deeply committed leaders whose work advances the wellbeing of Black communities and other communities of colour, and we'd love your help to identify and invite them to apply.
