Water Resources Manager and Aquatic Ecologist

I believe that to build a world free of racial inequity and discrimination, technologies, policies, curricula and disciplines must be indigenised.

As a professional water resources manager and aquatic ecologist, with a vivid interest in indigenous knowledge systems, my main current interest is in how water monitoring tools may be indigenised to incorporate practical linguistic tools and local cultures. My AFRE project will contribute to this goal by incorporating as yet undocumented indigenous knowledge about water systems and aquatic organisms and their utility. Respectful harnessing and collating of these knowledge systems will empower and motivate “citizen scientists” to monitor the water resources they know best.  This will include collecting and sharing data with professional fresh water ecologists and national water resources databases. During my free time I listen to music. As a creative person, I’m intrigued by stirring vocalists, lyricists and poets.
