Mahoro Semege
Associate Research Supervisor; Postgraduate Studies, AFDA
Mahoro holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Film, Media and Cultural Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa where he has taught Storytelling Across Media and Cultural Contexts, Film Genres, Post-Classical Hollywood Cinema, and African Cinemas among other courses. He also holds a B.Ed. (honours) in Applied Pedagogy and a Master of Arts in Dramatic Art with a focus on cultural specificity and cinematic narration. Mahoro’s research areas encompass civic intervention documentary, post-colonial theory, and African Philosophy.
Mahoro has served as head of Department at Birnam Business College, a deputy Principal at Leap Maths and Science School, and is currently head of school at the African Film and Dramatic Arts Academy (AFDA), a CILECT-affiliated film school in South Africa. Starting this year (2021), Mahoro will serve as Postgraduate Associate Research Supervisor for all AFDA campuses in South Africa.
Mahoro's creative accomplishments include five feature film speculative screenplays and four documentary films which he wrote, directed and produced.
