Edgar Villanueva
Edgar Villanueva is the author of Decolonizing Wealth and founder of Decolonizing Wealth Project (DWP) which aims to collectively move us all from disparities to equity. DWP promotes a world vision in which everyone can live our best lives, thrive in our cultures, and bring about healing from generations of colonial trauma. DWP’s work interrupts the cycle of continued oppression to help heal communities of colour that have been exploited by changing the practices of financial institutions, including philanthropy, which control and move capital.
Edgar currently serves as senior vice president at the Schott Foundation for Public Education, a nonprofit that provides capacity building supports for education justice campaigns across the United States. He serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Native Americans in Philanthropy, NDN Collective, and is a Board Member of the Andrus Family Fund.
Edgar holds two degrees from the Gillings Global School of Public Health at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Edgar is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and resides in Brooklyn, NY.
