Legal Policy Advisor, Independent Schools of Southern Africa


Alexandra (Alex) Fitzgerald is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Legal Policy Advisor at the Independent Schools of Southern Africa. Prior to joining ISASA, Alex was the Senior Legal Officer at the South African Human Rights Commission. Alex practiced law as a corporate mergers and acquisitions Associate and served as a Law Research Clerk to Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Alex was selected as a Center for African Studies' Harvard South Africa Fellow for the 2016-2017 academic year to undertake a Masters of Law at Harvard Law School. During her Masters, Alex co-founded and was co-President of the Human Rights and Business Students Association and also served as the LL.M. representative of the Black Law Students Association. Upon completion of her Masters Alex was awarded a Dean's Scholar Prize for her academic performance and Honors for her dissertation on environmental racism in the context of mining.
