AFRE COVID-19 Guidelines
for Travel and Convenings
Updated OCTOBER 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all differently. Furthermore, the ever-changing nature of vaccine requirements imposed by countries, airlines and venue providers means that we all must be mindful of our collective responsibility to act in ways that might reduce transmission and harm to our community.
AFRE is committed to a collective care approach grounded in the values of solidarity and respect for the dignity of all members of our community. We will do our best to support everyone to participate meaningfully in our events, including hosting events outdoors and in well-ventilated spaces.
We strongly recommend that all attendees kindly adhere to the following protocols.
Pre-event Protocols
Take a COVID-19 test within 1 day of departure from your home city. This can be a PCR test or a self-administered antigen test. AFRE will reimburse you for this cost.
Forego attending the event if you test positive for COVID-19 or experience symptoms.
Travel Protocols
Wear a face mask (N95 or KN95, not cloth) during airport pickups and transfers.
Event Protocols
All attendees are required to provide proof of COVID-19 primary series vaccination.
Take a rapid PCR test, which AFRE will provide, upon arrival.
Take full advantage of the COVID-19 care pack (masks, hand sanitizer and other wellness items) that AFRE will provide.
Wear masks while in indoor common spaces, including during sessions and meetings.
Notes
Should you test positive during the AFRE event, AFRE will provide accommodations and meals to support you to isolate for 3 days.
In the event of a new variant of concern or other serious developments, AFRE may be required to cancel or reschedule the event, or host it virtually, in the interests of safety.
Please contact afrehomecoming@atlanticfellows.org with any questions or concerns about these guidelines.
Waiver of Programme Liability
Although all care will be taken to support your health and safety, by attending this event you are acknowledging that you are fully familiar with the risks inherent to travel and social interaction during the pandemic and that you are assuming those risks. AFRE, Columbia University and Nelson Mandela Foundation have no responsibility, financial or otherwise, in connection with any activity undertaken before or after AFRE programming.
